Course: Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish

Certain materials from the Constellation of the Commons are used for Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish classes at the school. The AP course is structured with a wide variety of diverse topics for discussion and reflection. One of the themes is education in a broad sense. Over several days, we read general texts about education (newspaper articles, surveys), and we focus on a more reflective perspective.

Another theme we address is the progressive aging of populations in developed countries. We read and discuss various general articles on the topic, some focused purely on an economic perspective. We also try to talk about personal experiences with elderly people and how to imagine that stage of life that we will all reach. We read excerpts from “Arrugas” by Paco Roca, and finally, we use excerpts from the interview with Tranbensol. Similarly, in this case, we try to visualize alternatives to the view of aging. The excerpts make us rethink how we characterize and imagine older people, and we observe the collaborative and vital experience of this community.
