We are small roots, a rhizome of people, a river that advances– searching, asking itself questions, and plucking questions from the air– both the external and internal air. The name Unidentified Video Observatory itself indicates a little bit just who we are. The collective and its members are not about borders. The borders of the organization are always in flux.
The Archive of the Observatory has an intentional, thematic nature. It facilitates a critique of contemporary culture, utilizing diverse strategies such as video art, independent documentary, and archaeology of mass media. The Archives house a constellation of disparate works whose common denominator is free expression and reflection upon collective and individual fears and pleasures, constructing a multifaceted vision, thousands of small eyes, which explore our world, and suggest other possible worlds. These works represent a discourse whose core values are heterogeneity, plurality, contradiction, and the subjectivity from which they are realized. They also embody a rejection of the cloning and repetition characteristic of corporate mass media. Source
